A 69-year-old was in critical condition at the Nicosia General Hospital on Thursday after he was run over by a car in Paralimni the night before.
The road accident occurred on Foti Pitta street at around 8.20pm, as the 69-year-old was pushing a supermarket cart along the street.
The elderly man was initially rushed via ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital, but his transfer to Nicosia was deemed necessary due to the severity of his condition.
Arriving at the Nicosia General Hospital, the 69-year-old underwent surgery but his condition is still described as critical.
The driver provided a statement to police, which is looking into the causes of the clash.
