Boosting education and skills to support reunification and economic growth

Newsroom

The European Commission's office in Cyprus has announced the launch of the EU Scholarship Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community for the academic year 2025–2026. As part of the EU’s Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community, the initiative aims to foster education, professional development, and skills training while supporting efforts to reunify the island.

This year’s programme, with a €5 million budget, brings the total funding for the initiative to €43 million since its inception. Covering a wide range of educational and training opportunities, the programme focuses on priority areas like software engineering, green technologies, and other fields vital to modern labor market needs.

Economic Growth Through Education
The scholarship programme is designed to bolster the economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community by enhancing both technical expertise and interpersonal skills. Notably, it includes the "Alumni Connect" initiative, which unites the 2,300 Turkish Cypriots who have benefited from the programme since it began in 2007.

In the previous academic year (2024–2025), 140 Turkish Cypriots pursued studies in 19 EU Member States in disciplines such as medicine, urban design, human rights, and sustainable development.

How to Apply

Applications are open until April 2, 2025, at 23:59 Cyprus time. Interested candidates can apply online through the EU Scholarships website at www.euburs.eu or direct questions to euscholarships-cyprus@goethe.de. The Goethe-Institut has been managing the programme since 2022.

The EU Scholarship Programme represents a commitment to advancing skills, fostering economic development, and contributing to Cyprus's reunification through education.
