The Conference of Presidents unanimously decided to remove Eva Kaili from her position as one of the 14 vice presidents of the European Parliament in the aftermath of the bribery scandal involving Qatar.
The Conference of Presidents convened in private at 8.30 a.m. The main topic of discussion was the activation of Rule 21, which deals with the removal of the Vice-President.
At the end of the Conference, House President Roberta Metsola announced that the European Parliament plenary would approve the removal of the Vice-President later that day if she obtained a two-thirds majority of the House.
Metsola stated on Twitter that the integrity of the European Parliament is paramount and that the plenary will vote on Ms Kaili's removal at 12:00 noon (13:00 Cyprus time).
