Coronavirus cases in the Republic of Cyprus reached 735 on Thursday after 20 more tested positive from a bulk of 2,905 lab tests.
Confirmed cases also rose in the north, with the total reaching 105 on Thursday. A sum of 4,731 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the north.
The 20 new cases in the Republic involve:
- 10 that tested positive in the framework of the 20,000 targeted tests on employees, 1,742 of which were conducted on Thursday
- seven that emerged after 600 contacts of known cases were tested
- two who tested positive after 141 members of staff of Microbiology Labs in General Hospitals were tested
- one who was found positive for the virus by a private lab, with private labs conducting 303 coronavirus tests on Thursday
From the 119 samples taken from arrivals to the island, none tested positive.
The Health Ministry’s epidemiological team said it was happy with Thursday’s developments, noting that it believes that the epidemiological picture being painted day by day corresponds to its hopes and goals.
The experts urged the public to remain committed to the path we are on, allowing the situation to keep down the same improving path as well.
Speaking at the daily briefing, Dr Marios Loizou said that at a time when the global coronavirus landscape is seeing almost 2.1 million confirmed cases and 135,000 deaths, Cyprus has managed to stabilize its curve.
