Three people were injured Friday morning when an explosion rocked a metal collection company in the industrial area of Aradippou.
The blast occurred around mid-morning as a 52-year-old man was unloading scrap metal from his double-cab vehicle. Two others were caught in the explosion: an employee of the company and another person delivering scrap metal at the site.
All three were taken to Larnaca General Hospital with serious injuries but were reported to be conscious.
Authorities quickly cordoned off the area as police bomb squads and the National Guard joined the investigation. Members of the Fire Service and Labor Inspectorate were also on the scene, working to determine the cause of the blast.
“The police are investigating the cause of the explosion, and the scene is under secure control,” said Mr. Sotiriades, one of the officials at the site.
At this stage, it remains unclear what triggered the explosion, and investigations are ongoing.
