Female driver dead in Cape Greco waters

Traffic accident ruled out as car spotted at sea with missing woman dead inside

Newsroom

A woman who was reported missing Wednesday evening was found dead Thursday inside a car that was floating in the water in Cape Greco.

Police officers and coast guard officials rushed to the scene after authorities were notified by a group of German tourists who said a vehicle was at sea in the area of Kamara tou Koraka in Protaras.

State forensic pathologist Sofocles Sofocleous also arrived at the scene while the woman was rushed to the Emergency Room at Famagusta General Hospital where doctors on duty pronounced her dead on arrival.

According to some media reports, oficials said they matched the victim to a Greek Cypriot woman who was reported missing by her family a day earlier, on Wednesday evening.

It was later reported that the vehicle had Greek Cypriot license plates while the driver was a 40-year-old woman from Latvia.

Authorities have ruled out the possibility of a traffic accident, while CID Famagusta are investigating the case.
