The cause of death of a 67-year-old Russian tourist, who died Wednesday at Kissonerga beach in Paphos, is still unknown while fellow beachgoers had attempted to resuscitate her but to no avail.

According to police, a female tourist was at the beach in Kissonerga on Wednesday morning when private citizens noticed at one point that she was unconscious in the water.

Beachgoers helped bring the woman out of the water and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. But the CPR technique did not help the woman regain consciousness and she was taken to the hospital.

Doctors on duty in the Emergency Room at Paphos General Hospital pronounced the woman dead on arrival.

Media reports said a heart condition was not ruled out following an apparent drowning incident, while a post mortem scheduled for Friday is expected to reveal the exact cause of death.

Police told Knews the woman was a Russian national and was in Cyprus on short holidays.
