Fines of €1,378,100 imposed for personal data breaches

The Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection received 1616 complaints in four years

One thousand six hundred and sixteen (1616) complaints were received in the last four years by the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection on cases of personal data breach since the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Commissioner on the occasion of the completion of 4 years since the implementation of the Regulation, of these complaints submitted until the end of April, 415 concerned unsolicited advertising messages, 305 notifications of breaches and 74 impact assessments.

A total of 425 audits were carried out, 163 Decisions were issued and administrative fines totaling €1,378,100 were imposed.

In addition, the Office engaged in 143 consultations on bills and draft laws related to personal data issues and a variety of questions were answered in writing, of which 1357 were answered immediately.

As it is noted, the citizens are informed about their rights and do not hesitate to submit complaints and concerns about whether or not something constitutes legal processing of their personal data.

The Office, it is noted, contributes to the implementation of data protection rules in the Member States of the European Union and to the strengthening of citizens' rights and the cooperation of the supervisory authorities.
