We’ve made it to Friday and the Cyprus weather machine is keeping things entirely agreeable. After some early morning mist and patchy low clouds pack up and head out, we are looking at a classic, wide-open summer day with just a few decorative clouds here and there.
The distribution of today's heat is surprisingly uniform, giving almost everyone a very solid reason to clock out early and head for the nearest beach bar.
Inland: Peaking at a comfortable 37°C. It’s warm, sure, but a perfectly standard backdrop for your Friday lunch break.
The north coast: Checking in just behind the capital at a hot 34°C.
The rest of the coasts: The south and east coasts will see a steady 32°C, while the west coast matches the mountain peaks today, offering a cool, breezy 30°C.
The high peaks: Troodos is enjoying a gorgeous 30°C max, ideal for an afternoon trek.
Winds will start off a bit lazy and variable this morning at 3 to 4 Beaufort before gathering steam from the southwest to northwest later today, hitting a firm 5 Beaufort in exposed areas. The sea will transition from dead calm to a light chop on windward beaches, so pick your swimming spots accordingly.
Tonight, once night falls, the atmosphere slows right back down to a crawl. Expect clear conditions for the most part, though the west coast might see a few low clouds rolling in after dark.
If you’re driving late or at the crack of dawn on Saturday, watch out for localized mist and low fog creeping across the inland plains and the eastern/southeastern corners of the island. Winds will ease down to a faint 3 Beaufort, leaving the southern and eastern waters as smooth as a swimming pool.
Let's not forget that tomorrow is July 4th. While we may be firmly planted in Cyprus, anyone planning an American-style Independence Day barbecue with charcoal-grilled burgers, ribs, or apple pie will have the absolute perfect weather for it. Expect it to be mostly clear and sunny all day, with a tiny temperature bump pushing us slightly above the seasonal average. A few clouds will gather over the mountains in the afternoon, but the coastlines will be pristine for firing up the grill.
Sunday & Monday: Don't get too comfortable with the heat. A cooling trend kicks off on Sunday, dragging temperatures back down to, and even slightly below, the seasonal norm. Along with the cooler air comes a buildup of afternoon clouds, bringing isolated showers and the distinct possibility of an actual thunderstorm over the mountains and inland hubs.
