A funeral director in the UK is being sentenced this week for keeping 35 bodies and around 100 containers of human ashes at his mortuary.
Robert Bush is currently appearing in court for sentencing after pleading guilty to 67 offenses, including 30 counts of preventing a lawful and decent burial.

In March of 2024, police discovered 35 bodies and around 100 sets of ashes at his funeral home.
Yesterday, Monday, the 27th of July, as Bush entered the courtroom for the first day of his hearing, he reportedly said, “I’m sorry," to the family affected by his actions. According to reports from the BBC, the family members laughed at his mumbled apology.
The court was packed with relatives of the unburied victims, many of whom spoke about the emotional impact that was caused by Bush’s actions and the distress of learning that their loved ones did not receive the proper burial that they expected.
Byron Lill, whose mother’s ashes he believed he had taken home in a box provided by Bush, shared the emotional impact of the case during the court hearing. He stated that knowing his mother’s remains lay on the premises for 8 months “destroyed him."
Another woman, Christina George, who believed her brother's ashes had been scattered at Bridlington Harbour, stated that Bush “turned our world upside down” and caused unimaginable pain for her family.
Many other relatives described the lasting emotional impact that Bush’s actions have had on them and how he has taken away the opportunity for them to properly mourn, as we will hear even more statements in the upcoming days.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled to last for a total of 5 days due to the massive scale of evidence and up to 240 victim impact statements. The judge’s formal sentence will be announced at the end of the week.
