Newsroom

A ceasefire in Gaza will commence at 7 a.m. on Friday morning, as announced by Qatar.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that the initial release of the 13 Israeli hostages is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday.

Following the release of the hostages from Gaza, the release of Palestinians from Israeli prisons is anticipated. Majed al-Ansari cited security reasons for not disclosing the exact plan and mentioned that the ceasefire is expected to cover both northern and southern Gaza comprehensively.

One hour later, Israel confirmed receipt of an initial list of hostages to be released from Gaza. Authorities are currently verifying the details and engaging with the families.

The Qatari spokesperson emphasized Gaza's status as a war zone, linking the delay in implementing the agreement to security efforts. He clarified that lists and times were agreed only for the first day, with subsequent updates to be announced as they unfold. He underscored the importance of keeping communication lines open.

The spokesperson highlighted that the ceasefire entails a cessation of all hostilities and could be broken by any resumption of hostilities as defined.

He urged against further delays, expressing expectations for humanitarian aid trucks to enter the Palestinian enclave after the agreed ceasefire begins.
