Health Ministry announces one death, 365 cases

A total of 36,702 tests were conducted, marking a positivity rate of 0.99%, while the fatality involved a 90-year-old man

The Health Ministry announced one coronavirus fatality and 365 cases on Tuesday, raising the death toll to 246 and total cases detected so far to 42,993.

The fatality involved a 90-year-old man, who suffered from underlying conditions.

A total of 36,702 tests were conducted, marking a positivity rate of 0.99%.

125 of the new cases were primary contacts, three were airport arrivals, 86 were people who took the initiative to get tested, 13 were tested at a general hospital, one was tested either upon the referral of their GP or as part of special health groups, while 14 were tested via rapid test at private labs and pharmacies.

Among new cases, 124 involved people who tested positive to a rapid test. A majority of 61 were detected in Limassol, followed by Nicosia where 33 people tested positive, while 17 tested positive in Larnaca, nine in Paphos, and three in Famagusta. Another one involved school staff or student.

Cyprus hospitals are currently treating 222 coronavirus patients, of which 50 are in critical condition.

63 patients are in the Famagusta general hospital, six of which are in the ICU. The Nicosia general hospital is also treating 68 patients, 28 of which are in the ICU. 60 more coronavirus patients are at the Limassol general hospital where seven are in the ICU, 16 are in Larnaca, eight are in Paphos, while seven are at the Makarios hospital in Nicosia.
