Newsroom

A new yellow warning has been issued for Friday afternoon due to extreme high inland temperatures, with levels remaining unchanged over the weekend but then gradually starting to go up.

Weather officials said a combination of warm air mass and low pressure system is affecting the area over Cyprus, with Friday skies mostly clear and variable winds from weak to moderate throughout the day but also strong winds in some coastal areas in the afternoon.

A yellow warning has been issued for Friday afternoon from 1pm until 5pm, due to extreme high temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius in the interior.

Temperature highs elsewhere will be 33 degrees in the west, southwest, and high up in the mountains, and around 35 in all other coastal regions.

Monday highs are expected to rise further but gradually, with levels expected to reach well above normal averages for this time of the year

Weak to moderate westerly winds are expected to pick up later in the afternoon, with coastal winds reaching up to 5 points on the Beaufort scale in some local areas.

Evening weather will remain mostly clear with temperature lows dropping to 23 degrees in the interior and coastal regions, while it will be 19 high up in the mountains.

Saturday highs will reach 40 degrees inland, 33 in the west, south, and high up in the mountains, and around 35 in all other coastal regions.

Strong westerly winds on Saturday will reach 5 points on the Beaufort scale, while hot temperatures are expected to last through the weekend.

Monday highs are expected to rise further but gradually, with levels expected to reach well above normal averages for this time of the year.
