Newsroom

In a recent development, the Meteorology Department has issued an orange warning indicating the onset of exceptionally high temperatures. This advisory will remain in effect starting from 11:00 AM on Monday (14/08) until 6:00 PM on the same day. The anticipated maximum temperature is estimated to reach around 44 degrees Celsius in inland regions, while hovering at approximately 35 degrees Celsius in elevated mountainous areas.

The forthcoming weather conditions are expected to be predominantly sunny, albeit with intermittent instances of heightened cloud cover. Prevailing winds will predominantly originate from the southwest, later shifting to the northwest. They are anticipated to be gentle to moderate, ranging between 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale. In specific locales along the western coastline, winds might intensify to a robust 4 to 5 Beaufort. Sea conditions are anticipated to be mildly unsettled.

As the day progresses, temperatures are projected to soar to roughly 44 degrees Celsius across inland zones. Along the eastern and southern coastal stretches, the mercury is predicted to settle around 37 degrees Celsius, while the western and northern coastal areas are likely to experience temperatures of about 34 degrees Celsius. In the elevated mountainous terrain, temperatures are anticipated to reach around 35 degrees Celsius.

Tonight, the weather is anticipated to remain predominantly clear. Winds, mainly originating from the westerly and northwesterly directions, are forecasted to be gentle at around 3 Beaufort. Localized areas might experience occasional moderate winds, registering at approximately 4 Beaufort. The sea is expected to exhibit minor turbulence. Temperatures are projected to dip, reaching around 26 degrees Celsius inland and along the coasts, while higher mountainous regions may experience temperatures dropping to 25 degrees Celsius.

Moving into the midweek period, namely Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the weather is expected to retain its sun-drenched character, accompanied by warm temperatures.

Tuesday is anticipated to witness a slight drop in temperatures, while Wednesday and Thursday are expected to showcase relatively stable conditions with only marginal temperature fluctuations. Despite these subtle variations, the temperatures are projected to remain elevated, surpassing the average climatic norms.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to combat the impending heatwave. Staying hydrated, minimizing outdoor activities during peak sun hours, and remaining informed about weather updates are all strongly recommended practices to ensure the well-being of individuals during this period of extreme temperatures.
