Israel slams Turkey over Cyprus 'occupation', while Erdogan calls Netanyahu Hitler

War of words escalates as Israel slams Turkey’s stance on Cyprus and Syria, accusing Ankara of hypocrisy.

A war of words erupted between Israel and Turkey on Wednesday, with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz accusing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of hypocrisy over comments comparing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler.

“Erdogan, who illegally occupies northern Cyprus and invaded northern Syria, is the last person who should talk about morality,” Katz wrote in a sharply worded post on social media. “A little self-awareness could be helpful.”

Ankara hit back within hours. Turkey’s Foreign Ministry dismissed Katz’s remarks as “vile lies and slander” and escalated the spat by accusing Netanyahu of genocide. “He and his accomplices will be held accountable before justice,” the statement read.

The heated exchange adds fuel to an already volatile regional atmosphere. Turkey has thrown its weight behind Iran in recent weeks following Israeli airstrikes, while tensions with Greece are also rising over Turkey’s controversial new maritime zoning plans near Cyprus and Greek waters.

The latest row underscores deepening divides in the region, as long-running disputes over territory, military actions, and the war in Gaza continue to spark diplomatic clashes.
