President Donald Trump has approved military plans for a potential U.S. strike on Iran, but he has not yet given the green light to carry them out. While the White House is preparing for a possible offensive “in the coming days,” officials say Trump is still hoping that the mere threat of force will push Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
During a high-level meeting in the White House Situation Room on Wednesday night, Trump reviewed several options, including the use of U.S. B-2 bombers to target Iran’s deeply buried Fordow nuclear facility with massive bunker-buster bombs. Despite these preparations, Trump told reporters, “I may do it, I may not do it,” indicating that no final decision has been made.
Trump is closely watching Israel’s military campaign, which has already struck Iran’s Arak nuclear reactor. Meanwhile, a new wave of Iranian missiles hit Israel on Thursday, including a direct strike on Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, prompting global outrage.
Tensions are rising both in the region and in Washington. Trump faces pressure from pro-Israel voices, including Israeli billboards in Tel Aviv that read, “Mr. President, finish the job!” urging him to fully back Israel’s military efforts.
While U.S. diplomats have begun evacuating from the embassy in Israel, no American attack has taken place yet. Some Democrats in Congress have warned Trump against unilateral military action, urging him to seek congressional approval if he chooses war.
For now, the U.S. is not officially at war, but it’s inching closer.
