Drivers using one of Cyprus’ busiest highways should brace for delays over the coming days, as roadworks and maintenance projects are set to take place on sections of the Nicosia–Limassol motorway.
The Public Works Department has announced a series of works along the A1 motorway (Nicosia–Limassol), urging motorists to follow temporary road signs and instructions from police officers on duty.
Monday lane closure near Kakoratzia
On Monday, April 27, 2026, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., pruning works will take place in the Kakoratzia area on the highway heading towards Limassol.
During this time, the left lane will be closed for about one kilometer. Traffic will be redirected to the right lane only, which is expected to slow down traffic flow in the area.
Works near Agios Tychonas
Separately, roadworks are already scheduled earlier in the week.
On Wednesday, April 22, and Thursday, April 23, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., excavation works will be carried out on the Limassol–Nicosia direction of the highway, just before the Agios Tychonas exit.
The works are part of preparations to install electronic variable message signs, digital boards used to display real-time traffic information.
During this phase, the roadside verge will be closed for about 600 meters.
Authorities warn of delays
Officials are calling on drivers to be patient and plan their journeys in advance, especially during peak travel hours.
They stress that even short-term closures on the island’s main highway can quickly lead to congestion, particularly when traffic is funnelled into fewer lanes.
