A 43-year-old construction contractor in the Germasogeia area of Limassol has been placed in police custody for two days following a fatal workplace accident that left a worker dead.
Police said the contractor was arrested on suspicion of causing death by reckless or dangerous acts and interfering with a police investigation. Authorities allege the suspect attempted to conceal the site hazard by covering a floor opening with wooden planks after the incident.
The remand hearing was held at the Limassol District Court in the presence of the suspect’s attorney. The contractor is currently receiving treatment at a private clinic.
The victim, 43-year-old Giorgos Konstantinou, was found dead in the basement of a building under construction in the Potamos Germasogeias area.
Police said Konstantinou had been working on an upper floor when he fell through an uncovered floor opening intended for an elevator shaft. The circumstances of the fall remain under investigation.
