Limassol Police arrest man who bit officer during pursuit

A 35-year-old man was arrested in Limassol on Monday after allegedly biting and injuring a police officer during a foot chase, authorities said.

According to the Limassol Police Department, the incident occurred around midday near Heroes' Square, when officers spotted a man leaving an abandoned building and fleeing the scene.

A bicycle patrol officer pursued and intercepted the suspect, who allegedly struck and bit the officer during the confrontation. Despite the altercation, the officer managed to detain the man until backup arrived.

The injured officer was taken for medical evaluation. His condition was not immediately disclosed.

Police later identified the suspect as a Nigerian national whose asylum application had been rejected. Authorities said he was residing in the Republic illegally.

The man was arrested and faces charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and unlawful stay in the country.
