Starting April 1, 2025, the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC/AΗΚ) will implement a temporary consumer support measure announced recently by President Nikos Christodoulides. This measure will reduce the VAT on electricity from the current 19% to 9% for one year.
Christina Papadopoulou, spokesperson for EAC, spoke about the decision on the “Mera Mesimeri” program on ANT1, describing it as a move that would provide relief to citizens. She explained that for an average household, the reduction in the electricity bill would amount to approximately 20 euros every two months.
When asked how EAC would handle electricity bills covering consumption in both March and April (as readings are taken during this period), the spokesperson clarified that the reduced VAT rate would apply only to bills issued from April 1 onward.
