A heartbreaking incident occurred on Friday afternoon (March 14) in Nicosia, when a 9-month-old baby was found dead after being left in a car for several hours. The baby’s death has stunned the public, with authorities currently investigating the circumstances.
According to the autopsy, which was completed on Saturday (March 15), the cause of death was determined to be anoxia-hypoxia due to hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is a medical condition where the body’s temperature rises to dangerously high levels, typically above 40°C, due to prolonged exposure to heat. It can lead to severe health complications, including organ failure, and can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. In this case, the baby’s death was caused by anoxia-hypoxia due to hyperthermia, meaning the body was unable to receive enough oxygen due to the extreme heat. The baby had been left in the vehicle after the mother, upon finishing her work, went to pick up the child from daycare. She was informed that the baby had never arrived at the daycare, only to discover the infant unresponsive in her car.
An ambulance rushed the baby to the General Hospital of Nicosia, but despite efforts by doctors to resuscitate the child, the baby could not be revived.
