A 29-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday after allegedly threatening police officers with a knife during a confrontation in Limassol, authorities said.
According to police, officers from the Limassol Bicycle Unit were patrolling the area around 11:30 a.m. when they approached the man for a routine check. Investigators later confirmed that a court warrant had been issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court.
As officers neared him, the man reportedly pulled out a knife and waved it aggressively while shouting. Police said he then ran into a nearby kiosk, continuing to brandish the weapon.
Officers subdued the man inside the kiosk and confiscated the knife. He was then arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
The Limassol Minor Offenses Department is handling the investigation.
