Man found dead in waters off Cape Greco

Search and rescue teams activate national plan after emergency call near Agioi Anargyroi.

Emergency services were placed on high alert Wednesday afternoon after a man was found unresponsive in the sea near Agioi Anargyroi, off Cape Greco.

According to the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC), the alarm was raised at approximately 16:05 Wednesday, prompting the immediate activation of the national search and rescue plan, NEARCHOS. A coordinated response followed, involving a speedboat from the Port and Marine Police, a land patrol from the Famagusta District Police Department, and an ambulance from the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY).

Rescuers recovered the body of a man, identified as being of Bulgarian nationality, from the water. He was transferred by ambulance to Famagusta General Hospital, where medical staff confirmed his death.

At present, the exact circumstances surrounding how the man ended up in the sea are unclear. The relevant authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause and conditions of the incident.
