A Polish man thought to be missing after a night dive in Limassol has turned up in his place, drunk and arrested on a prior warrant related to domestic abuse.

Police on Thursday arrested Grzegorz Pawelczyk, a 44-year-old Polish national who was believed to have gone missing on Tuesday after taking a late night dive in the water at a beach in Limassol’s Molos area.

While authorities were looking for Pawelczyk, according to local media, he was found in a state of intoxication on Thursday in his own residence which was reportedly cordoned off during a police search a day earlier.

Reports said Pawelczyk managed to get inside his apartment on the 7th floor after jumping from the rooftop of his building, which was described as a “very old” and “derelict” structure. Local media also said the key lock had been changed by authorities and there was no electricity inside the flat.

Officers handcuffed Pawelczyk on an old arrest warrant issued in May on domestic abuse charges.

Media said police officers went to visit his apartment a second time after receiving information that the man they had been searching in order to rescue since Tuesday night was indeed seen around town on Wednesday.

The man was said to have been drunk and unable to communicate clearly during his arrest.
