Monday arrives softly with patchy fog and slow-moving clouds

Cyprus wakes to calm seas and gentle temperatures.

Monday has returned in its usual fashion; a little sleepy, a little reflective and moving at half-speed until the second cup of coffee kicks in.

After a weekend full of conversations, headlines and reactions across the island, Cyprus wakes today beneath calmer skies, where the weather, much like election results, is likely to leave some people smiling, others shrugging and a few still waiting to see how things unfold. One thing both have in common: pleasing everyone all at once is nearly impossible.

An unstable air mass continues to influence the region today, although the morning begins quietly enough. Any patches of mist or fog will gradually fade away, making room for a partly cloudy day with soft sunshine filtering through the skies.

As the afternoon unfolds, clouds are expected to gather over the mountains and parts of the interior, where isolated showers and thunderstorms may briefly appear. Nothing too widespread. Just a reminder that spring has not entirely handed the keys over to summer yet.

Winds will begin light and undecided before settling into a gentle southwesterly to northwesterly flow later in the day. Meanwhile, the sea keeps a peaceful mood, remaining calm to only slightly rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 27°C inland, near 26°C along the southeastern, northern and eastern coasts, around 24°C in the remaining coastal areas and a cooler 15°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight will be mostly clear and quiet, although pockets of low cloud may drift through some areas. By the early hours of tomorrow morning, patchy mist or fog is expected to return, mainly across the eastern half of the island.

Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to follow a similar pattern, with afternoon cloud build-up bringing isolated showers or thunderstorms over mountain regions and possibly inland areas as well. By Thursday, only the slightest chance of a mountain shower remains.

Temperatures will slowly edge upward through Wednesday before settling close to seasonal averages later in the week, warm enough for iced coffees, open windows and counting down the days until summer holidays officially begin.
