Monday forecast: The atmosphere hands off the baton (somewhat reluctantly)

Partly cloudy skies shift toward evening showers and isolated thunderstorms as the atmosphere hands control to an approaching low.

Newsroom

A weak high-pressure system is slowly stepping aside today, making space for an approaching low that’s been inching closer like someone trying to sneak into a meeting late. A bit of lingering dust floats around at intervals. Call it the sky’s leftover glitter from the weekend.

Today:
Expect a partly cloudy vibe overall, with the afternoon bringing isolated showers mainly over the mountains or the north, the usual places that love to stir up weather like it’s a hobby. By evening and into the night, cloud cover thickens as if gathering courage, leading to more widespread local showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly inland, in the north, and on higher ground.

Winds start off from the northwest to northeast, light to moderate, but by afternoon they commit to a mostly northwesterly direction. In windward areas, they’ll ramp up to moderate and sometimes strong, showing a bit more enthusiasm than earlier. Seas range from slightly rough to rough, particularly in the west and north, as if those regions decided they weren’t going to sit quietly today.

Temperatures reach around 26–27°C inland and on the southern and eastern coasts, around 24°C on the western and northern coasts, and 18–20°C in the mountains, officially kicking off a noticeable cooldown from the unusually warm spell we’ve just had. Seasonal norms, here we come.

Tuesday (tomorrow):
Locally mostly cloudy skies will juggle intermittent showers with isolated thunderstorms, keeping temperatures near the usual levels for this time of year.

Wednesday & Thursday:
Expect partly cloudy conditions with the chance of isolated afternoon showers, mostly in the mountains,  because of course they want to stay involved. Temperatures nudge upward slightly midweek, as if testing whether they feel like warming up again.
