Monday momentum: Starting the week at a breathable 37°C

After a refreshing weekend break, the heat edges back up without reaching extreme territory.

Newsroom

Coming off a weekend that genuinely felt like a mini-vacation, with those delightful 19°C Troodos mornings and inland highs capping at 35°C, heading back into the Monday routine feels a whole lot easier. While the heat is beginning its expected post-weekend climb, we are nowhere near those grueling 43°C or 44°C peaks from last week.

Our familiar seasonal low pressure is still gently steering the ship, delivering wide-open, mostly clear skies across all districts to kick off the new workweek.

Temperatures in the interior capital region climbs to a very manageable 37°C, a light step up from Sunday, but still a far cry from mid-heatwave numbers. The western and southwestern coasts win the daily comfort award at a crisp 32°C, while the remainder of the coastline holds steady around 35°C. Up in the higher Troodos peaks, you will still find a remarkably pleasant retreat at 28°C.

Winds will start off out of the northwest to northeast at a light to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort. As the day progresses, they will swing around to the southwest and northwest, picking up to a firm 4 to 5 Beaufort in localized coastal spots during the afternoon. The sea remains well-behaved, keeping to a slight chop overall.

Once the sun sets, the clear conditions hold steady across the island for a comfortable, quiet night.

Winds will settle into a northwesterly flow, keeping at a light to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort. The water will mirror the day's conditions, remaining slight and peaceful right through to early Tuesday morning.

The outlook
Tuesday: The mercury ticks upward again, bringing inland temperatures back above seasonal averages under mostly clear skies.

Wednesday & Thursday: The climb levels off, so expect temperatures to hold stable at Tuesday's elevated levels through the middle of the week with no major shifts in store.
