The death of a dog in rural Paphos is under police investigation following a complaint that the canine was stabbed by an angry neighbor.

A 30-year-old dog owner in a village in Paphos district has filed a complaint with law enforcement authorities, accusing his neighbor of stabbing his pet outside the residence.

Unconfirmed reports said the suspect got angry and pulled out a knife after his own pet was attacked by the neighbor's dog

According to the complainant, the incident took place outside his house on Sunday when a 53-year-old neighbor, who also owns a dog, carried out the knife assault.

Police sources told Knews that the injured dog, which was taken to a vet for treatment, was later brought back home where it succumbed to its injuries on Monday.

The suspect, described as a Greek national, was arrested on Monday but charges were not immediately clear. Unconfirmed reports said the suspect got angry and pulled out a knife after his own dog was attacked by the complainant's pet.

A post mortem was expected to shed light on the cause of death while charges may include knife possession, aggravated assault, and animal abuse.

It was not immediately clear on Tuesday whether Animal Police were involved in the investigation.
