Major traffic restrictions, parking bans, and a drone prohibition will be in effect in central Nicosia on January 7, as authorities prepare for the inaugural ceremony of Cyprus' EC Presidency to be held at THOK, the Cyprus Theatre Organisation.
Parking will be prohibited throughout the day on several streets around the venue, including Dimostheni Severi, Grigori Afxentiou, Michael Karaoli, Lordou Byronos, Kostis Palamas, Omirou, Anastasiou Leventis, Evagorou, Diagorou, and Vasileos Pavlou.
The Municipality of Nicosia also announced that private vehicles will not be allowed to park in either of the two underground parking facilities at the old GSP stadium for the entire day.
From 2:30 p.m. onward, road closures will be put in place around the THOK area, with access strictly controlled by police. Drivers are urged to comply with traffic regulations and follow the instructions of officers on duty to avoid delays.
Authorities also reminded the public that the use of unmanned aircraft, including drones, is strictly prohibited in the wider THOK and Conference Center area. The ban, imposed by decree of the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, will remain in force for the full duration of the presidency.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and avoid the area if possible, as the inaugural ceremony is expected to bring heightened security and traffic disruption to the city center.
