A passenger was arrested after causing a disturbance on an EasyJet flight from Gatwick to Larnaca on Thursday night, prompting the airline to return the aircraft to the U.K. without passengers, authorities said.
Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaca Airport, told the Cyprus News Agency that the flight landed around 10 p.m. local time. All passengers disembarked safely, and the individual was taken into custody by airport police.
The crew had alerted authorities during the flight due to the passenger's behavior, according to the airport operator.
Following the incident, the airline decided to fly the aircraft back to Gatwick without any passengers on board.
EasyJet arranged overnight hotel accommodations in Larnaca for passengers who had been scheduled to return on the same aircraft. The travelers were later rebooked on alternative flights, arriving in the U.K. late Thursday night and Friday.
