Around late October to early November, the Photo Radar list will be launched after the completion of improvements and modifications made by the Police. Initially, the system will be applied at checkpoints and police stations, while it is highly likely that in the first half of 2026 it will also be integrated into the traffic police officers’ laptops. It is noted that the improvements and modifications aimed to streamline the process of issuing fines, so that offenders receive immediate penalties for their violations, while also making the photo-enforcement measure more effective.
As Deputy Inspector of the Traffic Department Tasos Asikkis told K, the Photo Radar list will start being applied at checkpoints and police stations in late October to early November. The system, however, will not operate at airports and ports due to the Schengen zone and the congestion it would create in passenger lines. Additionally, Mr. Asikkis stated that in the first half of 2026, the Photo Radar list will most likely also be implemented on the roads during Traffic Police checks.
How it will work at checkpoints and on roads
The Photo Radar list will be a software system, expected to allow fines to be issued on the spot. For example, if someone intends to travel to the occupied areas, during a checkpoint inspection the system will check whether there are outstanding fines against them. Also, when a traffic police officer stops a driver for a routine check or traffic violation, the officer will be able to verify through their laptop, where the Photo Radar list will be integrated, if any fines are pending against the driver.
