Authorities have released the 39-year-old Greek man who was questioned over possible links to the getaway of the gunmen behind the murder of Stavros Demosthenous.
Police had initially connected the man, who drove a pickup truck, to the suspected escape route used by the killers. However, after providing multiple explanations for his movements, each reportedly confirmed by investigators, he was cleared of any involvement in the crime.
At the same time, two other suspects remain in custody. The Limassol District Court has ordered that their detention be extended by eight more days as investigations continue.
The two men, aged 58 and 30, are Greek Cypriots accused of facilitating the assassins by acquiring a disabled motorcycle from a former footballer. That motorcycle was later used by the perpetrators to flee the scene of the execution-style killing.
