Police carried out overnight operations aimed at curbing the use of firecrackers and the lighting of Easter bonfires, responding to multiple incidents across different areas.

During these checks, the Fire Service was called in to put out several small fires that had been lit. Patrol units also intervened in cases involving firecrackers and confiscated wood that had been gathered for bonfires.

In the Paphos district, officers responding to a fire at around 7:00 p.m. encountered a group of young people. Most fled the scene, but a 13½-year-old boy was found carrying a knife. Authorities contacted his guardian, who arrived to take responsibility for him.

Later, at approximately 8:30 p.m., police attended another fire-related incident. At that location, they identified a 17-year-old and a 23-year-old man. The adult was arrested due to outstanding court warrants linked to unpaid fines.

The operation is part of preventive efforts by police to reduce dangerous activities and antisocial behavior among youths, particularly during periods when bonfire traditions are common.
