On July 25, 2024, Cypriot authorities seized a commercial truck attempting to transport over two tonnes of unmarked fresh meat to the occupied territories from an unauthorized crossing point, following a notification from the police.

The truck was intercepted near the Green Line by a police patrol. Upon inspection, a large quantity of fresh meat was discovered, intended for transport from the free areas to the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus. Officials from the Customs Department and the Veterinary Services were summoned to the checkpoint for further investigation.

The Veterinary Services seized the meat due to the lack of relevant markings and the inappropriate transport conditions in an unauthorized vehicle. The Customs Department seized the lorry for violating the Green Line Regulation by attempting to transit to the occupied territories from an unauthorized point.

The vehicle was later released to its owner after the payment of a €200 restitution fee. Additionally, the driver was fined €500 for the out-of-court settlement of the case. Authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to regulations to ensure public safety and maintain legal standards
