Rape of female police officer covered up

According to DISY MP, Rita Superman, the case was closed without any criminal or disciplinary action

Pavlos Neophytos

DISY MP Rita Superman today (08/11) denounced the cover-up of the rape of a policewoman by two policemen at the Parliament's Institutions Committee. She said the case was closed without any criminal or disciplinary action being taken.

She said, addressing the Chief of Police, who was present at the meeting on the GRECO Commission's findings on the Police, that the police male-dominated culture, the cover-up among officers, especially in disciplinary cases, belongs to the 1960s. "You know that if I was in the Force, this case would not have been dropped and probably would have been heard by the Criminal Court. You now tell me that the legal department has closed the case and that the police are doing their job. At this point it would be good to know what the investigator in the case recommended in the file so that we don't blame the Legal Service," Ms Superman said.

Response from the Minister of Justice
In a statement after the committee meeting and asked what she intends to do after hearing the specific allegations, Justice Minister Anna Koukkidi-Prokopiou said "If Ms Superman has evidence, she should come and submit it, so that it can be examined. If they are indeed valid, this is a very serious matter, but specific evidence must be submitted by Ms Superman on the issue she has raised."
