Revolut disruption leaves users unable to pay or access app

Card payments and transfers are among the services affected, disrupting everyday spending for customers in Cyprus and abroad.

Newsroom

A quick tap to pay for coffee or groceries became a problem for Revolut users Tuesday, as a widespread disruption affected both the banking app and card payments.

Customers reported being unable to log in, transfer money or pay in shops, meaning reaching for the physical card did not necessarily solve the problem.

Reuters also reported a Google Cloud outage in London alongside the disruption to Revolut’s services.

Revolut acknowledged the disruption in a statement on X, saying several functions were affected and some services could be inaccessible. Its technical team was working to restore full functionality as quickly as possible, the company said.

Revolut’s service-status page listed multiple services as partially unavailable when checked, including card payments, transfers and ATM withdrawals.

For customers in Cyprus who use Revolut for everyday purchases, the disruption can turn a routine lunch stop, supermarket visit or fuel payment into a search for another way to pay. Anyone relying on it while traveling may also find themselves unable to make a payment or move money when needed.

Complaints appeared on social media from users in different countries, although the full geographical extent of the outage was not immediately clear.

Reuters also reported a Google Cloud outage in London alongside the disruption to Revolut’s services. The report did not establish that every problem experienced by Revolut customers had the same cause.

Until services recover, customers heading out may want to carry another bank’s card or some cash rather than rely solely on Revolut.

Updates are available through Revolut’s official service-status page.
