Around 9:10am, the vehicle was on traveling on Tersefanou avenue in Kiti when the driver attempted to make a right turn into the parking lot of a concrete mix company.

Larnaca police said preliminary findings showed that the victim was not wearing his seat belt

As the vehicle was turning, it blocked the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming car driven by a 24-year-old man with a 16-year-old male passenger.

Thoupos was wounded seriously in the collision and was rushed to the Emergency Room at Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

The two young men were treated by medics while the 72-year-old driver was admitted to hospital for further medical treatment. CNA later reported that he was out of danger.
