The four checkpoints at Ledra Street, Astromeritis, Lefka, and Deryneia will be closed for seven days as of Saturday as part of additional measures to be taken to combat the spread of coronavirus, Health Minister Costantinos Ioannou announced.

“For more effective control at entry ways, we will be temporarily suspending for seven days the operation of crossings at Ledra Street, Astromeritis, Lefka, and Deryneia,” Ioannou said.

He added that the UN and the British Bases have already been informed on the move, which Ioannou said is being taken for the protection of both communities.

Ioannou noted that the services of medical professionals to be stationed at checkpoints have been procured, and will be assuming their posts at the Agios Dometios, Ledra Palace, and Pyrgos checkpoints on Saturday at 6am.
