Cyprus Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis, departs on Wednesday for Svendborg, Denmark to attend the European Maritime Day EMD 2024 Conference between 30-31 May.
A press release says that in the framework of the Conference, the Deputy Minister will hold bilateral meetings with the Mayor of Svendborg Bo Hansen, and Head of Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), Charlina Vitcheva, with whom she will discuss all issues related to the host country's required obligations for the organization of the European Maritime Day.
She will also visit shipyards, maritime training facilities and international training centers.
Limassol will host the European Maritime Day (EMD) for 2026, following a decision of the European Commission, with events in all the coastal cities of Cyprus.
The hosting of the European Maritime Day by Cyprus in 2026 coincides with the Presidency of the Council of the EU hosted by the Republic of Cyprus, in the first half of 2026.
The events, according to the press release, attract huge interest from all EU Member States, at a state level, for the academic and research community, companies and organizations that are active in the maritime and blue economy sectors, Non-Governmental Organizations as well as sea-related international and regional organizations.
This event will bring multiple benefits for Cyprus, as it will attract a large number of visitors who will participate in the events and workshops that will take place. It is also a huge opportunity to promote Cyprus as a maritime center and an attractive tourist destination, the press release reads.
