Summer's autopilot remains fully engaged

Temperatures hold steady above seasonal norms as sunshine continues across Cyprus.

By now, even the weather appears to have settled into a summer routine.

A seasonal low-pressure system continues to affect the region, although its presence is doing little to disturb a spell of warm, settled weather that has become increasingly familiar across the island.

Today will be mostly clear, with only occasional patches of cloud drifting across some areas. During the afternoon, coastal winds will freshen noticeably, offering at least a modest reminder that nature's air conditioning still exists.

Temperatures will once again reach around 37°C inland, 34°C along most coastal areas, a slightly cooler 28°C on the west and southwest coasts and 27°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight will remain mostly clear, although some low cloud is expected near coastal districts. Later, patches of mist or fog may form in inland and eastern areas before dawn, providing a brief appearance from weather phenomena that have lately struggled for relevance.

The forecast through Friday, Saturday and Sunday offers few surprises. Most areas will enjoy mainly clear conditions, while the daily ritual of afternoon cloud development over the mountains may occasionally squeeze out an isolated shower. A thunderstorm cannot be entirely ruled out, although the mountains continue to carry almost all of the workload.

Temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged through the weekend, staying slightly above average for late June. In other words, summer has found a comfortable cruising speed and, for the moment at least, seems perfectly content to stay there.
