Weak high pressure is affecting the area. Not strong high pressure, mind you. Weak. Even the pressure can’t be bothered today. It’s Monday. Nobody’s at their best.
Today: We’re looking at sunny intervals, interrupted by periods of increased cloud cover. So, sunshine, then clouds, then sunshine again. The sky’s basically having the same internal debate as everyone else: Do I really have to do this?
Winds will be light and variable at 3 Beaufort this morning, gradually becoming mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Not quite enough to blow you away, but enough to ruin your hair just as you arrive somewhere important. The sea will be calm to slightly rough, which sounds like a fair description of most people's mood by lunchtime.
Temperatures will reach around 26°C inland and along the coast, while the highest mountain areas will manage a positively chilly 14°C. So, if you're sweating in town, spare a thought for someone up a mountain wondering why they ever left the house.
This evening: Skies will be mainly clear, although some extra cloud is expected locally, particularly along the coast. The winds will initially blow from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort before easing into light downslope breezes at 3 Beaufort.
The sea will remain generally calm to slightly rough. In other words, the sea is coping with Monday better than most of us.
Tuesday (tomorrow): Mainly clear skies are expected, with occasional patches of increased cloud cover. A decent day, weather-wise. There's always tomorrow, isn't there? The great national coping mechanism.
Wednesday and Thursday: Wednesday will start mainly clear, before cloud cover increases locally after midday. There's even the possibility of isolated showers in the mountains. Isolated, mind you. The rain isn't organising a full-scale operation. It's just popping in to see a few people.
Thursday should be mainly clear, although temporary patches of increased cloud cover may appear. Nothing dramatic. Just the sky reminding us that it hasn't completely made up its mind.
Temperature outlook: Temperatures are expected to rise gradually through Thursday, moving closer to the climatic average for this time of year. So, after a slow start, even the temperature is getting its act together by the end of the week.
The bottom line: A sunny Monday, a mostly clear week ahead, and temperatures gradually climbing. No major weather drama expected. Which is more than can be said for the office, the school run, or that one person who replies “Can we jump on a quick call?” at 4:55 p.m.
Have a lovely Monday. Try to enjoy the sunshine. It's the only thing turning up today without complaining.
