A 45-year-old Greek Cypriot man has been detained for eight days in connection with the murder of Charalambos Konstantinidis, 52, from Paralimni. The homicide took place on June 25, 2024, in Ormidia, within the territory of the British bases.

The suspect, who appeared in court on Thursday, confessed to the killing, offering his account of the events. He had surrendered to authorities the day after the crime. His legal team did not contest his detention during the hearing.

British base police, who are leading the investigation, have recovered the murder weapon.

The murder occurred on the night of June 25 at a car paint workshop owned by the suspect, located outside Ormidia. Konstantinidis sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

According to British base police, the victim and the alleged perpetrator were acquainted, with Konstantinidis having assisted at the workshop on an informal basis. It has been revealed that the victim had financial demands from the suspect, which may have played a role in the incident.

Investigators from the British bases have gathered substantial evidence as the case continues to unfold.
