Police say two men arrested on suspicion of theft were taken to a Paphos station where they ended up cursing at officers and destroying property.

According to local media, two male suspects aged 35 and 32 were arrested on Monday night, around 12 midnight, on charges of possession of stolen property. Reports said officers went to a residence with a search warrant where they found two laptops thought to be stolen goods.

The suspects started breaking glass windows, destroying items on the wall, and literally pulling down the false ceiling

The two suspects were detained and transported to the town's central police station where at one point they started cursing at the officers and causing a lot of damage, including breaking glass windows, destroying items on the wall, and literally pulling down the false ceiling.

Police did not issue an official report but said officers managed to restrict the two suspects, one described by local media as Greek Cypriot and the other as Greek national with permanent residence in Paphos.

Knews understand that two men, who were already under arrest but not handcuffed, were being processed to spend the rest of the night in jail when the incident took place.

Police said the suspects, who could not explain where they got the laptops, were expected to appear before a judge on Tuesday in connection with destruction of property charges.

No injuries were reported following the incident at the police station.
