‘Nothing objectionable’ found after Cypriot police search for explosives on Syria-bound ship from Egypt

Newsroom

Reports of a possible explosives shipment prompted authorities at Limassol port to investigate a suspicious container from Egypt that was bound for Syria.

According to local media, police in the Republic of Cyprus received information that explosives were possibly inside a container that arrived in Limassol on a ship from Egypt.

The container in question, which was on a ship reportedly bound for Syria, was pulled down for inspection Thursday afternoon.

Reports said law enforcement officers from marine police and the coast guard were tasked with ascertaining whether the suspicious container included any illegal or dangerous items.

Police declined to comment on the story, telling Knews there was no report over the incident.

No information was provided about the contents of the container, but local media reports later by Thursday evening said “nothing objectionable” had been found.
