The lingering dust, the wayward wind, and the restless sky

Reflections and reports on Nature’s quiet turmoil

Newsroom

The air, heavy with dust, dims the light, casting a muted hush upon the world. The wind, though unseen, makes its presence known. It stirs the earth, lifting what was once settled, carrying it elsewhere with no regard for longing or return.

Emily Dickinson might have found kinship with such a day. The restless air, the dust adrift with no home; these are the very things she would have noticed from her window. The day unfolds beneath this haze, clear in sight yet clouded in mood. A weak low-pressure system lingers, stirring up dust in the air, its presence felt but not always seen.

Today, the weather will be mostly clear. Winds will travel predominantly from the northeast, gentle in some places, fierce in others. In the west, the breeze will whisper at 3 to 4 Beaufort, but elsewhere it will gather strength, pushing onward at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and occasionally reaching 6 in areas most exposed to the elements. The sea, too, reflects the unsettled mood; restless, troubled, though slightly calmer in the west.

Temperatures will rise to around 23°C inland and along the coasts, while the higher mountains, forever aloof, will remain cooler, reaching only 11°C. There is warmth to be found, though it is tempered by the winds that refuse to settle.

As night falls, the sky remains clear, but the wind shifts direction from northwest to northeast, still steady but with moments of greater force. The sea remains uneasy, the waves still pushing restlessly against the shore, though the western waters are slightly calmer. The coolness of the evening arrives as the temperature drops to 9°C inland, 12°C on the coasts, and 5°C in the mountains. A chill, the kind that stirs thoughts of solitude, lingers in the air.

In the coming days, the sky will mostly remain clear, though clouds will gather from time to time, as fleeting as thoughts in the mind. Friday and Saturday will see a gradual rise in temperature, surpassing the seasonal average, as though nature, for a brief moment, indulges in warmth before the inevitable retreat. By Sunday, a slight drop in temperature is expected, just as transient as the clouds, but certain as the passage of time.
