The Mediterranean mud-bath: Nature’s free spa day is here

A cloudy cocktail of grit and grumbles.

Newsroom

If you woke up today feeling like you’re living inside a vintage photograph, you aren’t dreaming. That golden haze isn't a fancy camera filter; it’s just the atmosphere deciding to get a little "elevated" with its mineral content.

It’s a busy day above us. We’ve got a low-pressure system moving in, bringing a wardrobe of medium and high-level clouds. Expect a heavy presence of our sandy friends from across the water. It’s the kind of day where "fresh air" is more of a suggestion than a reality. Local showers are on the menu, and they’re bringing a drum kit. Thunder might crash the party at any moment. Winds are coming in hot (or at least brisk) from the East, reaching a very feisty 6 Beaufort.

By late afternoon, the wind will lose its nerve and settle down to a lazy breeze. The Mediterranean is feeling particularly grumpy today. The sea will be rough, so maybe skip the paddleboard.

Checking the thermostat, inland and coastal areas will hit a respectable 24°C, while the higher peaks will be a brisk 17°C.

Tonight the drama takes a breather. Things will gradually clear up, and the sea will stop its tantrum, becoming only slightly rough.

Saturday: A classic "round two." Expect more clouds, more local splashes, and the occasional lightning bolt to keep things interesting.

Sunday: The clouds are setting up camp. By the afternoon, the mountains and the eastern half of the island are most likely to get a soaking.

The Monday Blues: Temperatures are taking a steady slide downward through Sunday, landing us in 'colder than usual' territory. Monday won't see much of a recovery, with afternoon clouds likely to deliver one last cheeky shower or thunderstorm just as you're trying to start your week.
