Wednesday weather bulletin: A warm spell with a cloudy curtain

Mild temperatures and high cloud hold steady before dust and instability move in.

Newsroom

A brief spell of high pressure is giving Cyprus a calm and warm pause, but it’s the kind that feels temporary, like a quiet interlude before the next act begins.

Today unfolds under stretches of medium and high cloud, softening the sunlight but doing little to hold back the warmth. Winds drift in from the northeast to southeast at a gentle 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally undecided in the west, while the sea stays slight and untroubled.

Temperatures are climbing confidently, reaching around 27°C inland and along the southeastern coast, decidedly warm for the season, while the rest of the coasts hover near 24°C. In the mountains, it’s a milder 21°C, offering a cooler escape.

Tonight, the clouds settle in more firmly, giving the sky a mostly overcast feel. Winds remain light, brushing between northwest and northeast, and the sea stays calm to slightly rough, with a bit more movement developing later in eastern and northern waters.

Thursday keeps things largely settled, with mostly clear skies interrupted by passing high cloud. But there’s a subtle shift underway. Dust begins to creep into the atmosphere, occasionally thick enough to dull the horizon and mute the sunshine.

By Friday, the weather turns more expressive. Cloud cover increases, and local showers are expected, with the possibility of thunderstorms making an appearance. Saturday follows in a similar vein, with scattered showers and isolated storms adding a bit of unpredictability to the weekend.

Temperatures hold steady through Friday, maintaining that above-average warmth, before easing back on Saturday to slightly below seasonal norms, a gentle cooldown after the midweek heat.
