The sky is making amends and the heat is calling it quits

Just when you thought it was safe: Brief showers, moody winds, and the slow descent to average.

Newsroom

Welcome back, fellow enthusiasts of the atmospheric arts! Our weekly forecast is brought to you by the always-opinionated seasonal low pressure system, which is still loitering about, affecting the area with its particular brand of meteorological flair.

Today’s forecast begins with a fascinating disappearing act! After the local low cloud dissolves, a dignified way of saying the sun is rudely waking them up, the skies will soon become mostly clear. Enjoy that instant sunshine gratification!

However, our sky cannot resist a little afternoon mischief. Look out for a few locally increased clouds that might wander in, bringing with them isolated, brief showers, mainly in the north. Think of it as a quick, refreshing sprinkle, the sky's idea of a complimentary spritz.

The winds are suffering from a serious case of indecision today. They start off variable and light (force 3 Beaufort), a gentle whisper, before they bulk up and become mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate (force 3-4). Just to show off, they’ll be locally strong (force 4-5 Beaufort) on the southern coast this afternoon. They’re basically going from a polite handshake to a spirited high-five. The sea, meanwhile, will be up to slightly rough. Perfectly manageable, but maybe leave the dainty canoes at home.

As for the temperatures, it's a tale of thermal adventure! Inland is a proper summer scorcher at 34°C. The west coast settles for a cooler 29°C, the rest of the coasts aim for a happy medium of 31°C, and the higher mountains are hosting a lovely, brisk retreat at 26°C.

The quiet night cap
Tonight, the forecast promises to be mostly clear, though later on, things get a little atmospheric. Patchy fog and low cloud may form locally, mainly inland and in the east, giving the landscape a complimentary, mysterious filter. The winds will be perfectly polite again, variable and light (force 2-3 Beaufort), gently rocking the sea into a state of up to slightly rough sleep.

The gentle correction
Looking ahead to Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, the forecast is generally mostly clear. Time to get those sunnies ready! However, those midday and afternoon hours will see a few recurring guests in the form of locally increased clouds. By Monday and Tuesday, these guests are expected to drop isolated showers, mainly in the mountains and the north. They just can't help themselves!

The big news is that the temperatures are finally listening to reason! They will gradually fall slightly until Tuesday, hitting the brakes and returning to their respectable, near the seasonal average values. The summer excess is over, folks. It's time to enjoy the calm, the sun, and the delightfully average temperatures!

No Cypriot library in sight!

Also in the spotlight: The Achillios Municipal Library, renovated about a year ago and left silent.
