Thursday weather: The mountains are still trying to make weather happen

Another warm and largely sunny day ahead, with inland temperatures reaching 36°C.

Newsroom

The forecast has become something of a broken record lately: sunshine across most of Cyprus, a few clouds gathering over the mountains in the afternoon, and meteorologists keeping one hopeful eye on the radar.

Today will begin mostly clear, although periods of increased cloud are expected along the west coast. As the day warms up, clouds will develop over the mountains, where an isolated brief shower cannot be ruled out. Elsewhere, conditions will remain largely dry and sunny.

Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest, strengthening during the afternoon and becoming quite noticeable in southern districts. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will reach around 36°C inland, 32°C along most coastal areas, a slightly cooler 28°C on the west and southwest coasts, and 25°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight will stay mostly clear, although some low cloud, mist and patchy fog may form before dawn, particularly inland and in eastern parts of the island.

The weekend forecast follows a familiar pattern. On Friday and Saturday, afternoon cloud development is expected to bring isolated showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm over mountainous and inland areas. By Sunday, the chances of rainfall become more limited, with only an isolated mountain shower expected.

Temperatures will continue a gentle downward trend through Saturday before edging up again on Sunday, remaining comfortably close to what late June in Cyprus is supposed to feel like, which is still warm enough to make parking in the shade feel like a major life achievement.
