Today's weather forecast: The great May mood swing

Friday’s coastal glow meets the looming Troodos tantrum.

Newsroom

Grab your sunglasses, then grab your coat, and maybe a snack. It’s going to be a busy few days in the atmosphere. We’re starting with a gentle low-pressure "hug," but by Sunday, a cold air mass is moving in to officially ruin the garden party.

Today, we’re shaking off the morning fog like a bad dream. Once that clears, it’s looking gorgeous, though the mountains might get a bit moody later. The vibe is mostly clear with a side of afternoon clouds.  Gentle 3 Beaufort winds will pick up to a moderate 4-5 Beaufort along the coast.

Midday showers are possible in the mountains, with a tiny chance of a thunderstorm just to keep things spicy.

Inland, the temperature will be a lovely 28°C. Along the west coast, expect a cool 23°C. The peaks will welcome you with a brisk 18°C.

Tonight we'll have mostly clear skies to start, but the clouds are creeping back in for a slumber party. High clouds will increase, and some sneaky fog will return by the early morning hours. Temperatures will dip to 14°C for most of us, while the mountain folk will be waking up to a frosty 8°C.

The weekend outlook
Saturday: Expect things to get a bit sepia-toned with some light dust in the air. The clouds are moving in properly now, and by evening, we’re looking at local showers and maybe a stray thunderstorm. Consider it the opening act for the main event.

Sunday & Monday: Mother Nature is flipping the cold switch. Believe it or not, the highest Troodos peaks might actually see some sleet or snow. Yes. In May. It’s going to be cloudy, wet, and thunderous. Winds will be significantly strengthened, aka very blustery.

The temperature is taking a massive dive well below the seasonal average. On Monday, don't expect a refund; it’s staying chilly!
